CortovaFood: The Texas Food Handler Card, Minus the Boredom

What it is

CortovaFood is a Texas food handler certification course built to the Texas Department of State Health Services standard (25 TAC §228.33) for cooks, servers, prep staff, dishwashers, baristas, counter and concession staff — anyone who touches food or the things food touches. Roughly 75 minutes of actual instruction, and a card that's honored across Texas.

The problem with the usual food handler course

The dominant food handler courses are the fast-food of e-learning: recycled slide decks, stock photos of gloved hands, and a narrator who sounds like a hold-message. Workers click through to get the card, retain nothing, and the first day on the line teaches them the real rules — sometimes the hard way, through a sick customer or a failed inspection.

The course is complete and pending DSHS accreditation. The moment it's accredited, this page flips to enrollment. Your card is issued on completion and valid per Texas rules (2–3 years depending on the option your employer selects).
